Scholars at Risk Canada Student Advocacy Day

The HRC hosted Canada’s first Scholars at Risk (SAR) Student Advocacy Day and engaged with students, faculty, and community of activists working to promote and protect academic freedom and human rights. The SAR Canada Advocacy Day aimed to bring together Canadian students at all academic levels, SAR student groups and representatives, as well as community members from across the country to discuss and learn about key areas of concern and advocacy as it relates to academic freedom in higher education. Participants had the opportunity to learn more about SAR-related projects at Canadian universities and advocacy options for faculty and student researchers. The event included an opening address on solidarity, individual roundtable discussions on focus regions, interactive workshops, and a keynote panel.

This event was hosted in collaboration with the Scholars at Risk Network (based out of NYU) and the UBC Human Rights Collective (based out of UBC ORICE).
